How To Practice
In order to reinforce change a player needs to practice the new skill taught 2/3 times more than their normal actions. Ideally this is done for every round of golf until the pupil starts to acclimatise to the changes.
In between each lesson I recommend the player hits at least 200 balls in practice so that progress can be made and we can therefore move to the next level on every occasion the player attends a coaching session.
After or during each lesson I recommend that the player keeps a diary and makes notes on the instructions given in the lesson. I would also ask the player to write down in as much detail as possible how he/she has felt whilst trying to perform any movement or drill. Where it has hurt or strained and try and read this prior to a practise session.
I try and make every practice session as productive as possible.
Please book the next lesson allowing time to hit at least 200 balls between each session.
New Order
All the top golfers in the world swing it differently, but almost all have the same sequence to their actions. From the top, the front hip and knee lead the way with a lateral drive towards the target, coupled, a heartbeat later, with a rotational motion. The trunk and the body are next, followed by the hands, and finally the clubhead. They follow this sequence because it’s the most efficient path to controlled power. It ensures your centre of pressure is moving in the direction you are hitting; it helps put the club on the correct plane; and it allows you to release your stored force at the right time. We will look at four ways to sequence your swing like a pro’s and then let three club players put them to the test.
